Athletes must in general:
- Accept the responsibility and privilege of representing Jamaica
- Display positive public actions at all times
- Demonstrate co-operation and respect for participants, officials and coaches before, during and after competitions.
- Respect the standards established by the coach.
- Treat opponents with respect; applaud for both teams during introductions, shake hands prior to and after a competition.
- Accept favorable and unfavorable decisions, as well as victory and defeat with equal grace.
- Abide by the rules of the FIVB and JAVA and competition.
Failure to adhere to these guidlines will result in immediate ejection from the squad/team, subject to referral
to the disciplinary committee with JAVA's By-Laws, Section 4 of the constitution.

| Selelction to the National Squads/Teams is an ongoing process.
In selecting athletes to the national squads/teams, coaching staff will observe the following:
1. Registration:
All Players must be citizens of Jamaica and be registered with a club and therefore the Jamaica Volleyball Association.
2. Participation:
All players must play for a club/school/affilation in local competition.
3. Proof of age:
All players must submitt a Birth Certificate or passport as proof of age for eligibility for selection.
4. Personal details & consent/medical history & authority forms:
All athletes must complete and lodge with JAVA appropriate forms as requested, namely, Player Profile Data Form.
Where required, a parent or guardian must sign these forms.
5. Code of Conduct:
All athletes are required to complete and lodge the "Athlete Code of Conduct Form".
Where required, a parent or guardian must sign these forms.
6. Training Squad Activities
All athletes are required to attend all compulsory activities as indicated by the Head Coach and published on
JAVA's team calender and/or squad newsletters or communicated by team managers.
7. Athlete Costs:
Where JaVA sanctions the participation of teams in regional/international tournaments.
JaVA will endeavor to cover maximum costs for entry fees, uniforms, gears, tickets,food and
accomodations and medical assistance for travel to these tournaments. JaVA however reserves the
right to request minimum monetary contributions from athletes whenever it is deemed necessary.
8.Athletes to Select
Training Programmes and performance at JAVA Championships, allows the Coach to make selection decisions.
a. Common Criteria: No team can be announced by the coaches and media until it has been ratified by a selection committee involving
the National Team Coordinator, Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Team Managers.
b. Physical Criteria: Given the nature of the sport, where height contributes technically to the standard of play and increases the likelihood of success,
coaches are to ensure that taller players (particularly at the junior level) are given greater opportuntity and time to improve and develop.
9.Selection time frame
Training Squads are to announced by the latest April 30th. Final Training Squads are to be announced by the first week in June. This timeframe facilitates
final team selection for intensified preparations.
Coaches are however required to maintain squads in continuous training.

| Selection to the National Team is an on-going process:
By the latest April 30 of each year, the Coaching Staff will have identified
20 males and 20 females per senior and junior teams, who will comprise the
National Training Teams for Indoor Men and Women,who will be trained under
the National Training Programme developed by the Head Coaches and Technical
Committee. The Head Coaches must then submit these names by way of recommendation
to the JAVA Executive Management Team for ratification. Subsequently, the President
will officially announce the squad's selectees and rudiments of the National Training
Programme prior to the commencement of the training programme.The final training squads
must be identified and submitted for ratification to JAVA Exectutive Management Team by
the first week of June of each year. The teams to be chosen will represent Jamaica in competition
to be identified by the Technical Committee during during the period 2008-2011. They will be subject to
constant observation by the Coaching Staff and Management Team Personnel for the purpose of continuing
evaluation, utilizing the Selection Criteria herein attached. Athletes will be tested on both their
physical conditioning and technical skills and on thier on and off court decorum. Evalution will include
phyisical traits such as (not limited to) verical jumps, upper and lower body strength and
cardiovascular fitness.; and technical skills such as passing, hitting, setting, serving, blocking
and overall ability to represent Jamaica.
Specific Selection Criteria
Currently under revision
The required age span for the Male and Female squads will primarily be 14 to 29 years old
spanning both male and female squads. Coaches can however justify any selection made outside
of these parameters to JaVA management team. Note that the selection is open to local players
and Jamaican Nationals living overseas.
In selecting players to the national squads and teams, the national team coaching staff will
primarily consider AGE and HEIGHT in relation to specific positions. Coaches must next judge:
Skills
- Attack Efficiency
- Blocking Efficiency
- Passing Efficiency
- Serving Efficiency
- Setting Efficiency
The above listed criteria will carry different weight depending upon the position the athelete
is playing (eg. Setter; Outside Attacker; Defensive Specialist (Libero); Serving Specialist; Blocking Specialist).
Additional Factors Include:
Teamwork: The Willingness to accept a role that will lead to team success.
Positive Attitude:Exhibiting enthusiasm and support for teammates.
Versatility:Exhibiting a balance between offensive and defensive
skills as well as the ability to adjust to play multiple positions and fulfill multiple roles.
Maturity:Demonstrating an ability to adjust to various situations and dealing with adversity.
Adjusting to situations that not going well and reacting appropriately.
Coach Direction:Exhibiting the ability to process and incorporate input from the Coaching Staff.
Experience: Number of years on the team and the number of matches played with excellence!!
Age:Number of youthful years to be expended, especially related to continuous jumping(strong legs).
Other: Intangable considerations that affect the the dynamics and performance of the team such as "Decorum".

- Work effectively within the team unit
- Ability to compete and co-operate within the team
- Ability to implement the Coaching Staff's game plan
- Ability to communicate with teammates and coaching staff on and off the court.

The sport of volleyball is not a measured or timed event. In the selection of athletes who will compete together
as a team, it is the belief of JaVA and the Management and Coaching Staff that the mix of selection criteria
listed above, which includes subjective componentsas well asobjective statistical measures in
evaluation of performance ability,will result in selection of the best athletes who will work together
as an effective team and contribute to team success and the successful representation of Jamaica in the
sport volleyball.
