KINGSTON, Jamaica, October 03, 2011
New member of the Jamaica Volleyball Association, Colleen Barrett says she is full of ideas and ready to take on her role as General Secretary for the Association. Barrett was elected to the post last week Saturday 1st October 2011 at the MICO University College when the Association staged its Bi-annual General Meeting where it voted in members of the Executive for the upcoming term.
Serving for the first time in the capacity of General Secretary, Barrett who was quite enthusiastic pointed out, “Jamaica is more known for its local and international Track and Field performance. I want to see volleyball rise… and become appreciated as much as Track and Field is. My heart’s desire is to see the day when we have our own indoor arena and state of the art facilities that can cater to regional and international audiences”.
Major Warrenton Dixon who was nominated for a second term to serve in the post of President of the Association was re-elected, along with Tamika Pennicott as Treasurer. Following the election, Dixon declared, as he had done of previous occasions, that the JaVA would continue to maintain its focus.
During a pre-election interview, he had emphasized that if re-elected his mandate would have been in keeping with the then approach and focus of the association. Satisfied with the significant strides made by the JaVA within the past two years, Dixon promises to lead the Executive along a path that sees among other things, continued focus on Youth Development, the establishment of a National Beach Volleyball Court at Independence Park and further advancement towards a Volleyball Development Centre.
